The 1993 television movie crime drama based on the true story of the bravery of 26 children & the school bus driver Ed Ray who were kidnapped by 3 armed men & buried 12 feet underground. However, Michael Marshall, a 14 year old refused to give up. Together with Ed, they managed to stack mattresses up to reach the ceiling, pry open the metal cover, & clear away debris. As a result, all 27 victims escaped safely to the quarry guard shack before the kidnappers could issue their $5 million ransom demand. Ultimately, authorities arrested the Schoenfeld brothers, James & Richard & its ringleader, Frederick Newhall Woods IV who were pleaded guilty in 1977 to kidnapping with bodily harm & received life sentences & then eventually granted parole. Richard Schoenfeld was released in 2012, James Schoenfeld in 2015, & Frederick Woods in August 2022.
